One of the most classic Christmas recipes is roast turkey. To make sure your bird turns out perfectly, all you have to do is follow this simple recipe. First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a roasting pan by lining it with foil and greasing it lightly. Place your thawed turkey in the roasting pan and rub it with a generous amount of butter. Add some salt, pepper, garlic powder and your favorite herbs to the bird for extra flavor. Place the pan in the oven and leave it to roast for 2-3 hours or until an inserted thermometer reads 165°F (74°C). Once done, remove the pan from the oven and let your turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. Serve it with all of your favorite trimmings such as roasted potatoes, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce.
If you’re looking for something a bit more creative than traditional roast turkey, why not try this delicious take on classic shepherd’s pie? Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium-high heat and add in 1 diced onion, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 peeled and diced carrot, 1 stalk of chopped celery, 1 pound (450g) of ground beef and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Cook everything for about 8-10 minutes or until the beef is browned and cooked through. Add in ½ cup of frozen peas and 1 tablespoon of thyme leaves and cook for another minute, stirring occasionally. Once done, spoon the mixture into an ovenproof baking dish and spread it out evenly.
Top this with a layer of mashed potatoes. To make the mashed potatoes, boil 2 pounds (900g) of peeled and diced potatoes for about 10 minutes or until tender. Drain the water and return the potatoes to the pot with ½ cup of milk, 1 tablespoon of butter, and some salt and pepper to taste. Mash everything together until you reach your desired consistency. Spread the mashed potatoes over the beef mixture and bake for 30 minutes or until golden. Serve your shepherd’s pie with a side of fresh vegetables for a truly festive dinner.
